Dr. Tom Welsh

DVM
veterinarian

Dr. Welsh has served as a pathologist and consultant with Lombard Veterinary Hospital for more than 45 years. A lifetime member of both AVMA and the Chicago VMA, he earned a PhD in Pathology in addition to his DVM degree. Dr. Welsh’s interest in pathology was inspired by the TV show Quincy, the story of a human pathologist. He loves to solve mysteries in health!

When Dr. Welsh isn’t working, he enjoys golfing, fishing, bicycling, riding horses, and doing projects around the house. A favorite pastime is his work with the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs. These specially trained service dogs bring comfort and calming influence to people of all ages at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and events and in disaster situations. He and his wife, Lenore, are Traveler’s Aid volunteers, assisting travelers who are unfamiliar with the US and O’Hare airport. They are able to provide additional assistance for wounded warriors and others who have special needs.

The Welshes have two grown, married children and two grandchildren. The mistress of the house, however, is their 5-year-old Bichon Frise. For as long as Dr. Welsh can remember, animals have been a part of his family and his family’s history. In the early 1900’s, his grandfather had a farm in Oklahoma and drove a team of horses with wagons in the oil fields. Dr Welsh grew up in Oklahoma on a farm raising cattle with uncles who had a combined herd of 50 horses, and remembers having always wanted to be a veterinarian.
