Leader Dogs for the BlindBrandy a Leader Dog for the Blind

Leader Dogs for the Blind is a nonprofit organization located in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Founded in 1939 by three Detroit-area Lions Club members, they have become one of the largest guide dog training facilities in the world. Their Canine Development Center can house up to 350 dogs and their Polk Residence facility can house up to 24 clients at a time. Over 15,000 clients have graduated with their guide dogs since their founding.

Meet The Dogs

Brandy is a Golden Retriever/Labrador who was raised by Lion's Club Member Jeff in the Lombard area. Brandy and Jeff trained together for a year, during which she was introduced to a wide range of environments to help her remain calm and well-behaved. Once she reached adulthood, she returned to the Leader Dogs for the Blind facility for four to six months of formal training with a guide dog instructor to become a skilled Leader Dog.

Jeff has been given another wonderful opportunity to help train a new Leader Dog for the Blind and has been paired with Cosmo! Together, Jeff and Cosmo will follow the same training program he used with Brandy. Meet Cosmo, A Future Leader Dog for the BlindOnce their training is complete, Cosmo will return to the Canine Development Center for the next stage of his journey.

LVH Cares Foundation

We are proud to be able to help sponsor Jeff and Brandy as they train together. We use funds from the Lombard Vet Cares Foundation to help provide Brandy with her exams, vaccines, parasite preventatives, and services she may need while in Jeff's care. Donations to our foundation allow us to continue to help service the amazing animals and people in our community.
