Boarding Requirements

To protect the health and safety of every pet staying with us, all boarding guests must meet our boarding requirements before check-in.

Wellness Examinations

All boarding pets must have had a wellness examination performed by a Lombard Veterinary Hospital veterinarian within the previous 12 months. This is in accordance with the Illinois State Practice Act VCPR.

We recommend scheduling your pet's annual wellness exam 1-2 weeks before your boarding reservation to ensure your pet is healthy, all required vaccinations are current, and any concerns can be addressed before boarding.

Dog Boarding Requirements

Dogs boarding at Lombard Veterinary Hospital must have:

  • Wellness examination within the past 12 months
  • Current Rabies vaccination
  • Current Distemper (DAPP/DA2PP) vaccination
  • Current Leptospirosis vaccination
  • Current Canine Influenza vaccination
  • Current Bordetella Vaccination

Cats boarding at Lombard Veterinary Hospital must have:

  • Wellness examination within the past 12 months

If vaccinations were performed at another veterinary hospital, please provide us with an official vaccination record before the boarding reservation.

Pets arriving without the required examination, vaccinations, or fecal testing may require a veterinary examination before boarding, and any associated fees will be the owner's responsibility.

Boarding Check-In

To help make check-in quick and efficient:

During check-in, one of our veterinary assistants will review:

  • Feeding instructions
  • Medications
  • Medical history
  • Emergency contacts
  • Special care requests
  • Boarding instructions

Senior pets and pets receiving medications will receive an additional technician assessment before admission.

Medical Care While Boarding

Since we are a veterinary hospital, your pet's health is monitored throughout their entire stay.

If your pet becomes ill, our team will make every reasonable effort to contact you or your designated emergency contact. If no one can be reached, our veterinarians will provide any diagnostics or treatments deemed medically necessary to protect your pet's health.

Should your pet develop fleas, intestinal parasites, or another contagious condition that could affect other boarding pets, treatment will be initiated immediately. Associated treatment costs are the owner's responsibility.

Feeding During Your Pet's Stay

If your pet eats a different food or requires a prescription diet, please bring enough food for their entire stay.

If your pet eats a prescription diet that we carry in stock, we can provide it. A new bag or case will be opened and charged to your account, and any remaining food will be sent home with you.

Please label all food and treats with your name and your pet's name.

We provide all boarding patients with Hill's Pet Food Diet:

Medications

We are happy to administer medications while your pet boards with us. Regular boarding includes administration of up to four oral medications, provided they:

  • Are easily administered
  • Are given no more than every 12 hours

Some medications or treatment plans may require additional nursing care and may incur additional fees.
